TYPES OF DEGREES

1. Associate Degree

It is an academic degree awarded by the community colleges, junior colleges, and business colleges. Usually for two years (60 credits). In the USA, an associate degree is equivalent to the first two years of a four year college or university Bachelor's degree. It is the lowest in the hierarchy of post secondary academic degrees offered in the USA. Students need to appear for ielp/TOEFL/IELTS / PTE.

2. Bachelor's Degree

Commonly known as an Undergraduate degree in India. The duration of the bachelors course is 4 years (120-150 credits). Students who have completed a part of their undergraduate degree and want to go to the USA, can apply as a transfer student. There are two types of bachelor's degree: B.A or B.S. Some universities in the USA offer either of the degrees in all fields and at times both the degrees in some fields. Students need to appear for ielp/TOEFL/IELTS/PTE for admission.

3. Masters Degree

Master's courses typically last 1-2 years (30-48 credits), requiring 16 years of education. Engineering graduates qualify directly, while BCom, BSc, and BA graduates may need an additional year. Some universities accept 3-year Bachelor's degrees for MSc, MA, or MBA programs. Required exams: GMAT for management, GRE for other fields, and IELTS/TOEFL/PTE for language proficiency.

4. Doctorate

Commonly known as PhD. Duration may range from 3 years to 5 years. Students can take admission for a PhD after completion of their master's degree. PhD students need to submit a research proposal as well as have to appear for GRE/GMAT & ielp/TOEFL/IELTS/PTE for admission.

 

POST STUDY OPPORTUNITIES

On completing your study, you can work for 1-3 years under OPT status. After, you can secure a job meeting the H-1B visa requirements and work under it for 3-7 years leading to the issuance of your Green Card (Permanent Residency).

Optional Practical Training (OPT) provides you with the option to do an off-campus job or internship for 12 months, provided it's in your field of study. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) degree holders can apply for an OPT extension up to 2 Years.

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) allows you to do training, work, or even internships that might be part of your program.

U.S. Student Visa (F-1 Visa)

The F1 (student) Visa is normally granted for a period of 5 years. Moreover, the length of the stay depends on the duration of your study, which is mentioned on your 1-20.

For F-1 Visa, the students need to fulfill the following conditions:

 

Process

1. University Selection & Application

Choose a university from our 750+ partner institutions.

IAIC assists with admission counseling, essay guidance, and application submission.

2. Receive 1-20 Form (Certificate of Eligibility)

Upon acceptance, the university issues an 1-20 form for your visa application.

3. Pay SEVIS Fee & Schedule Visa Interview

The SEVIS fee ($350) must be paid before scheduling a visa appointment.

Book a visa interview at the U.S. embassy in your country.

4. Attend Visa Interview

Be prepared with financial proof, academic records, and strong intent to return home after studies.

5. Visa Approval & U.S. Entry

Once approved, enter the U.S. 30 days before the program starts.
